The number one reason I want to explore this idea, I would like to call it a hypothesis, is for me.
I would love this blog to create passive income, I would love to positively effect people and their daily routines, however the reason that trumps all these possible outcomes is that I want to refine my own systems and habits.
By putting it out to the world I can get fresh eyes on my thoughts, this could go either way, but a risk I am willing to take. I urge you to leave your comments and opinions to help me better the concept of Budgeting Your Energy.
One more reason for me is that I have realised recently how much I enjoy writing, how it makes me feel and this is a budgeted portion of my energy that I am working on, starting with 1 post a week (18 June 2022 - with the Post What is B.Y.E)
How did I realize writing gave me pleasure and replenished my energy?
I have always dabbled in lyrics and short stories, but on scraps of paper and now on OneNote. Then I met a publisher for the publication Drinks International via the bartending side of my life and he asked me to write about adapting to change, writing about running bars in Dubai and Seychelles and how the location and access and clientele and everything about it is polar opposite. Change that I think a lot of people might be too nervous to try. Moving through the article I probably wrote way too many words, however I thoroughly enjoyed the process and received internal positivity once it was complete. I believe the excess in words came from the fact that this was not a habit of mine (yet) and I had so many topics and ideas in my head that were waiting to share the stage. and that is when I decided to follow the likes of many of my influences in life and do one simple yet terrifying step… Start.
“Where do I start?” I asked myself
“At the beginning” , my conscious sarcastically replied
So the beginning, for me, is describing what I want to talk about, and what my idea is and from there I was amazed at how many topics, organically, sparked in to my mind. I started writing the topics down in OneNote (this is my system of efficiency and we will get to that in another post) however the point is that once I started, the next step become easy to see and achieve, that naturally motivated me to do more, and this cycle beats procrastination any day of the week .
Next comes the commitment. I added a 30mins slot in my calendar, just after waking up and reading. Yes that is correct, I have my alarm set for 6.30am and then my first calendar event for the day is to wake up and read. Straight after that is to write, before gym or a form of exercise. These systems create routines and habits, and that works for me.
And that is a glimpse into how to Budget Your Energy. How to understand your capabilities or output of energy and then dedicate a portion of that budget to a singular task whilst eliminating distractions. Through that you will notice how effective those shorter stints of time are, through that you use your time more efficiently.
And that just makes you feel good.
Sounds easy right?
It is, but it is not a given. It does require a bit of effort and commitment, and then it becomes a habit which naturally becomes easier.
Feel free to subscribe to the evolution of this hypothesis ; )
